About Jim Locksley

One day when I was walking around my college campus, I saw a group of people with these yellow tripods. At first I thought they might be photographers, but they sure looked like strange ones! I went up and asked them what they were doing, and it turns out they were a group of students from a construction class who were surveying the land for a project. I was fascinated. I was able to sign up for the class the next semester, and while it didn't stick or change my professional trajectory, it did create a new hobby for me! Ever since then, I've been interested in construction, from surveying to management to the actual building. I figured running a blog about it would give me a nice excuse to keep up my interests!

Three Of The Best Materials To Add Patterns And Style To Your Roof Installation

by Mike Brewer

There are many different types of roofing materials that can be used to give your home a unique look. If you want to have patterns and other designs in the roof of your home, you may want to use something other than conventional asphalt shingles. Materials like slates, tiles and cedar shakes work well to create patterns and unique designs in roof installations. Here are three of the best materials to use for the patterns and designs you want to have added to your new roof:

1. Using Slate Roofing To Create Designs On Roof Tops

Slate tiles can be a great choice for roofing material. They can also be installed on wood construction and resemble asphalt shingles. With slate, many different types of patterns can be added using slates of different shapes and colors. You can even have the slate installer make an inlay-like pattern with slates. A good slate installer will be able to do all sorts of patterns and designs in your roof to give it an original look. Since slate is a rock material, it will work best when it is being installed on a flat roof surface without curves.

2. Combining Different Color Clay Tiles For A Roof With A Different Look

If you want to combine different colors and styles for your roof, clay tiles are an excellent choice to create patterns on your roof. Since you can get them in many light colors, it is ideal for things like signs or lettering on a roof. This can also be done with slate tiles using black and white colored slates.  Clay tiles have the benefit of being more affordable, and can be used for different types of roofing designs, even some roofs with slight curves in them. It is also very durable and will last for many years.

3. The Many Different Options Of Cedar Shakes In Roof Top Designs

One of the most flexible materials available when it comes to roofing with patterns in cedar shakes. Cedar shakes can be used for continuous patterns on roofs with a lot of curves, arches and very little flat surface. Using steam-pressing techniques, shakes can be formed to fit the contours of any roof design perfectly. They can also be cut and split into any size needed, which make them a perfect material for patterns that include inlay designs in them.

These are some of the choices you have for roofing materials when you want patterns and designs on your roof. If you need help with the design and installation of a special roof, contact a slate roofing contractor, like Hasslinger Roofing or others, to install the perfect roof on your home.
