About Jim Locksley

One day when I was walking around my college campus, I saw a group of people with these yellow tripods. At first I thought they might be photographers, but they sure looked like strange ones! I went up and asked them what they were doing, and it turns out they were a group of students from a construction class who were surveying the land for a project. I was fascinated. I was able to sign up for the class the next semester, and while it didn't stick or change my professional trajectory, it did create a new hobby for me! Ever since then, I've been interested in construction, from surveying to management to the actual building. I figured running a blog about it would give me a nice excuse to keep up my interests!

Getting Bored With Your Living Room? 2 Tips To Brighten Things Up

by Mike Brewer

If you are getting bored with your living room there are many changes you can make. For example, purchasing new furniture, buying new curtains, etc., can make things look a lot different. Another thing you can do is make changes to brighten the room up. This will make things look much different and make your living room look beautiful. To help you get started with this, below are two tips of things you can do.

Consider the Lighting

One of the most important ways to brighten up a room is the lighting. For example, if you currently use fluorescent lights you should consider changing them to LED lights. LED lights are not only more economical, but they provide much better lighting. LED lights also come in a variety of brightness levels. This way you could brighten up one area of the room much brighter than other areas. For example, you may like to read and would need bright light. You would not need a bright light close to your television, however, as this could cause glare.

Track lighting would work well. This type of lighting is fitted on tracks. You can then place the tracks in many different positions. Many people choose to put these tracks close to the ceiling, so the lights shine down onto the room.

You can hang ceiling lights or a chandelier. Purchase lamps that are movable, so you can move the light to where you need it.

Paint the Room

One thing that can make a very big difference is the color of the paint in the living room. For example, if the living room is currently pained a dark color, such as brown, red, etc., this can make your room look much darker than it actually is.

Instead of this, choose a light color, such as white, light tan, yellow, and more. You could also choose grey, a bright orange color, or powder blue. This will instantly brighten up a room and make the room look much different.

No matter what color you choose you should not try to paint the living room on your own. This is especially true if you have never done this before. Instead, hire a professional interior painter. This person can also give you tips on paint colors you could choose from and show you different samples to help you decide.

Once you finish with these two options consider other things you can do to brighten up a room, such as sheer curtains to allow more sun to shine in or installing more windows. Contact a decorating service, like Carvey Painting & Decorating Inc, for more inspiration.
